Happy Independence Day America

July 4th, 2010

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck

Blurrggll

July 3rd, 2010

Lately, I seem to be doing the same things over and over. You know… I do something, realize I did it wrong, redo it, realize I have somehow done it incorrectly again.

So, that is how I’m spending my time these days.

Planting, Planting, Planting

New Plantings

Even though it felt uber hot today, I got out there and planted some plants. I planted a tree hydrangea and russian sage and violets and onion plants and mullien and hostas and evening primrose and amaranth sproutlings. Man, that was a lot of work, but it already looks gorgeous.

Seeds

May 19th, 2010

Got out and planted some seeds in the flower beds. Just hollyhocks and monarda. I may try sunflowers from seeds again. They didn’t do so well last summer. Only one of my seeds actually became a plant. I’m blaming it on the crummy winter instead of spring we had last year.

In other news, I have a great crop of thistles coming up this year. Which means I should be on the hunt for my gardening gloves.

Yard in my neighborhood

While I’m really enjoying all the rain and the cold and the feeling that my feet may never be warm and dry again, I’d just like to propose that you… CUT IT OUT!

Seriously, a couple of 60 degree days would be nice.

FO: Dog Sweater

Pal in his new sweater

Just in time for the return of cold weather I finished Pal’s sweater. The pattern is the Dog (or cat) Sweater by Lisa Hamblin. It was nice and simple, which I enjoyed because I don’t have a lot of experience with crochet. If I were to make this again (and I think I might) I would make it just a little longer.
